8. August 2014: Meta’s Restaurant Le Chef

| September 16, 2014 | 0 Comments

I already wanted to have lunch at the Restaurant Le Chef a couple of times but somehow it never worked out in the end. And I must admit that it is a pity that I was not able to eat here any earlier – as the lunch was actually delicious. As a starter (part of the menu), a “carrot wasabi cream” was served. The light spiciness with the basic taste of carrots was an ideal start for lunch.

Usually, I am not much of a vegetarian – but the “beet root gnocchi with kohlrabi on a saffron-Caotina-blanc sauce” (CHF 23.00) really sounded appealing to me. And I must say, as a matter of fact, this was quite an amazing main course. The taste of the Caotina blanc was not really strong but it somehow sweetened the saffron sauce a tiny bit – perfect match with the aromatic beet root gnocchi.

Last but not least I decided to have a “small cheese platter with home-made dried fruit bread, nuts and honey” (CHF 9.50). The cheeses served were “Jersey Blue”, “truffle cheese” and “herb mountain cheese”. The selection of the various cheeses was nice and so was the intensifying taste.

Already before the first course was served some bread and spread was put on the table – and frankly speaking the spread was one of the best I have had in the last couple of months.

Which was even improved by the fact that olive oil and a very special salt were provided – somehow it seemed to have flower ingredients in it making it very taste-intense and aromatic.

With regards to the interior of the restaurant it was definitely well-designed. The combination of wood, white covers as well as high-quality glass and cutlery make it a truly comfortable atmosphere which is even reinforced by …

… quite funny decoration like the picture below. The service is dedicated, passionate and you see that they are not just doing a job but it is really something they truly enjoy doing.

All in all, the Meta’s Restaurant Le Chef is definitely a place worth going – especially for lunch as where else in Zurich do you get a starter and a main in this quality for just CHF 23.00?

The only thing which definitely surprised me quite a bit was the fact that the restaurant was basically empty during lunch – there was just one other table occupied. However, I would recommend you to book in advance as I cannot imagine that it will remain this empty in the future.
