4. September 2014: Restaurant Weinsinn

| October 9, 2014 | 0 Comments

I have read about the Restaurant Weinsinn beforehand and it was not easy to get a reservation – but luckily I got called that a table became free on short notice so I figured I should give it a try while being in Frankfurt for one night. The dinner started with an “amuse gueule – veal tatar with avocado and a tomato reduction”. The veal tatar was aromatic and fit very well with the avocado and the tomato reduction – so my expectations (which were already high) were raised a bit more.

I decided to go for the starter of the day being “rabbit, duck liver, onion, cherry” (EUR 20.00). The rabbit was very tender and aromatic, smooth and mouth-watering. The duck liver was good – but did not reach my taste buds to their entirety. However, the little cherry bubbles definitely helped increasing the taste experience.

And again, I decided to go for the main course of the day – “venison” (EUR 34.00). The meat was delicious, aromatic, nicely medium cooked. The side elements contributed nicely to the venison and supported it in its taste.

The potato mash on the side made it a complete and round dish. Overall, I must admit that the dishes were great.

One comment though about the prices – I understand that great quality costs. But paying a solid EUR 54.00 for two tiny dishes so I had to eat quite some bread in order to create the feeling of having had enough for lunch is a bit steep. It is not entirely a rip-off as the quality is actually outstanding – but I consider the prices harsh.

At least the bread with the spread was for free – and the spread was very tasty. With regards to the beverages, the prices are fair (e.g. 0,75L water, EUR 7.50; double espresso, EUR 4.80). And when it comes to the wine, the waiter (which somehow seemed to be the owner as well) managed to leave a positive impression – the “Ad Astra” (EUR 8.50) is a great wine – and he had recommended it.

The place is lovely, great atmosphere, very nice, very stylish. With regards to the service – the same applies here. The service is friendly, dedicated, and does a great job. Overall, I liked my evening at the Restaurant Weinsinn but I must admit that I would recommend you to go for a tasting menu as you will end up paying the same amount as if you pick something from the menu but you will be able to try more. Reservation absolutely necessary.
