1. October 2014: Restaurant Pflug

The “lamb’s lettuce in a parmesan basket” (CHF 16.50) was a bit of a disappointment. The parmesan basket is good, the lamb’s lettuce is good and so is the sauce but somehow I expected something a bit more interesting than just really a lamb’s lettuce in a parmesan basket.

For the main course, I went for “three Cordon Bleus with red cabbage and polenta” (Cordon Bleu classic; Cordon Bleu Italian style with gorgonzola, pesto, olives and smoked ham; and Cordon Bleu “heavy” with ham, cheese, chili and garlic) (CHF 42.50). The Cordon Bleus were absolutely tasty – and I must say that the “Cordon Bleu Italian style” was definitely the best one.

As I had changed from polenta to “risotto” (+ CHF 7.00) I had slightly adjusted the menu but I must say it was a good decision (not that I can judge on the quality of the polenta) but the risotto was nicely viscid and still crunchy.

The prices for the beverages are also rather fair (0,5L water, CHF 5.50; double espresso, CHF 6.20) and even a glass of Corte Figarerto, Veneto, 2011 (1DL) accounts for CHF 8.00 only. The restaurant is definitely a truly local Swiss place – simple in its interior but you feel like being in a small place in a small city somewhere in Switzerland and not really like in the middle of Zurich. The waitress was very friendly, helpful, and uncomplicated.

All in all, the Restaurant Pflug is a great down-to-earth Swiss local restaurant which serves simple but good tasting food – for fair prices. I can absolutely recommend you to visit this place – and enjoy the local Swiss food.
