20. January 2015: Restaurant Sonnenhalde
While at first the “tasty tomato cream soup with croûtons” (CHF 7.90) looks not too appealing I must admit it was definitely way better than expected. The soup is made from actual tomatoes (or pelati) and not produced via a concentrate as you can actually taste the pulp of the tomato which makes it quite a tasty soup.
I had ordered salad instead of vegetables to the Cordon Bleu (see below) and got a whole menu salad on the side which was quite a portion. But the selection of salads ranging from cabbage, to carrots, to regular salad including sprouts was very nice and the dressing is fine too.
The “pork cordon bleu, filled with condimental mountain cheese and smoked ham, served with French fries” (CHF 28.50) did look rather dull but it was actually good. The French fries were nicely crispy and the cordon bleu was aromatic and flavoursome. Overall, a surprisingly good dish.
The place is still good from an atmosphere point of view – simple but generally appealing. And the service is very friendly and helpful at all times. Overall, it is perfectly fine to eat at the Restaurant Sonnenhalde.
