10. February 2015: Restaurant Platillos Voladores

| April 7, 2015 | 0 Comments

I have been recommended the Restaurant Platillos Voladores in Cali and had actually booked a table for that evening – but randomly ended up at the exact same restaurant for a birthday party – what a coincidence. The place itself is quite appealing but frankly speaking the dishes are only average. For the fact that everything is freshly produced – according to the guy who showed us around even the sausages (on a daily basis) – it somehow really lacked in taste.

As a main course I went for the “Lomo Ying Yang (plato mixto de medallón de lomo con champiñones y salsa de queso azul y medallón de lomo con salsa de tres pimientas y cebolla frita)” (36’000 COP) which looked quite interesting and also didn’t taste bad in the end but frankly speaking I had expected a bit more from what I read beforehand. However, the meat was tender and soft but the sauces somehow lacked in originality.

The “ensalada” which was served with it was okay. Nothing special in any way but absolutely acceptable.

Last but not least, there was a bit of birthday cake served but to be honest, it was not part of the restaurant but the party had brought it itself. Definitely absolutely delicious – although I have no clue of what it was made of.

As already mentioned the place was absolutely lovely as you had the chance to look into the kitchen right away and watch the staff prepare your food. On the other hand, the introduction about how everything was produced freshly every day raised the expectations even more – and, unfortunately, I was not a 100% satisfied.

But if you had a look at the bar you were more or less immediately intrigued by the atmosphere.

The place itself is lovely but the service is only limitedly up to date. You have to be quite patient when you wants something specific within a reasonable amount of time. However, the place is nice, atmospheric and worth going – especially as the food is good (not outstanding but definitely good) and you get to pay only a limited amount of cash for what you get. The place is very crowded and seems to be a hot spot among the locals – therefore, booking highly recommended!
