18. February 2015: Restaurant Kado Sushi
When you are into sushi you should definitely pay the Restaurant Kado Sushi a visit when you are in Bielefeld. I started my lunch with a “Japanese Apple Tea” (EUR 6.50) which seems a bit expensive at first but is definitely worth paying for.
As I did not feel like a set menu, I picked a couple of different dishes but was still brought a “complimentary miso soup” to start my lunch. However, I had ordered “Edamame” when I had also ordered my tea (which was before ordering the rest) and that never showed up at my table.
As a first course, I had the “Maguro Tataki (raw yellow fin tuna with spring onions, and refined with Japanese mountain pepper)” (EUR 8.90). The tataki was aromatic as the tuna was rich despite the very strong taste of spring onions which kind of had an overwhelming taste for the rather fine tuna.
The next four courses were all served on one plate – I went for “white tuna nigiri” (EUR 3.30 for 2), “Spicy Tuna Maki (yellow fin tuna, spicy sauce)” (EUR 4.70 for 6), “Philadelphia Gold Maki (surimi, avocado, creme fraiche, apricot mustard, sesame)” (EUR 5.90 for 6) and “Smoked Maki (smoked salmon, avocado, wasabi mayonnaise, sesame” (EUR 6.00). The dish which was outstanding was the “Philadelphia Gold Maki” – mainly due to the surprising effect of the “apricot mustard” which I have not had in this form yet.
The place is rather small, so booking a table around lunch time is absolutely recommended. However, if you go around 2.30pm, it is possible to get a seat. The service is dedicated and friendly but, in my case, was unfortunately forgetful (Edamame). The prices are absolutely decent for what you get and the dishes are very good. Definitely highly recommended when you are in Bielefeld.
