20. March 2015: Restaurant Spitzner im Oerschen Hof

This place is an ABSOLUTE HIGHLIGHT for Münster. I decided to have lunch here and went for the “whitefish with mustard potato purree” which was already a great teaser for your taste buds. What I considered great was the fact that usually the amuse bouche would have been a Breton mullet but as I had ordered that as a main, they changed the amuse bouche.

I went for the “goose liver terrine with cassis, lavender rosmary brioche” (EUR 24.00). The small icecream which came with it was delicious – absolutely luscious. To be honest though, I have had better terrines before. The lavender rosemary brioche was a great experience though.

The main course was a “grilled Breton mullet with beurre blanc, sautéed small champignons, watercress risotto” (EUR 21.00). What made the dish great was not only the quality of the fish but also the roasted fish scales which crowned the whole dish making it a very interesting combination of consistency. The risotto was also incredibly smooth and aromatic.

Although I did not spend much time here, I must say it is absolutely worth visiting. The atmosphere is very lovely as the restaurants has a perfect combination of classical and modern atmosphere. The interior is rather traditional as the place seems to be a former house of rich people but the interior is decorated nicely and modernly. The service is flawless – your dishes are served very swiftly without being there too quickly and the waitress is friendly and dedicated. Even the prices can be considered fair (e.g. a 1L bottle of water, EUR 6.50).

Overall, the Restaurant Spitzner im Oerschen Hof definitely is the best restaurant in Münster I have been to so far and is, therefore, highly recommended! Booking in advance (at least for dinner) highly recommended.
