19. June 2010: Ristorante Osteria al Diavolo e L’Aquasanta
The Osteria al Diavolo e L’Aquasanta is located right next to the famous Ponte Rialto, just two side streets away from the bridge and close to the Canale Grande. It’s not accessible by any means of public transportation besides boats as any other form isn’t really suitable for Venice. It’s a footwalk of around 30 minutes – more or less – from the train station or the piazzale Roma (where you can park your car).
We’ve got the place recommended by a florist located close to piazzale Roma and he might have been somewhat biased as the place belongs to his sister, but it was a good recommendation.
The place looks nice from the outside, somewhat typical and local though not full of tourists. When you enter the place, you won’t be overwhelmed by how beautiful it is but it is somewhat old Italian style which really fits the place.
The waitress was friendly – it might have helped that we told them that we’ve been sent by Roberto (the aforementioned brother of the owner Anna) and helpful at all times.
As a starter I had a “Lasagna alle Sepia” which was quite good but not really too big a portion as a primo (8 EUR).
As a main course we’ve enjoyed “Fegato alla Veneziana” which is basically liver Venetian style (meaning with a lot of onions) and some polenta. The Fegato was good, but honestly, I’ve had quite much better in my life.
All together, we’ve paid around 60 EUR including water, 2 primi, 2 secondi, café and coperto (2.50 EUR per person). It’s not really cheap, but for being located right next to the Ponte Rialto and the Canale Grande in the tourist city of Venice, it is acceptable.
You wouldn’t want to go there for the food (it is good, but nothing outstanding), but much more for the fact that it really is a locals restaurant where you won’t find many tourists and furthermore, because of the atmosphere.
