I have been recommended the Restaurant Differente for meat a couple of times – and I finally decided to give it a try. The “roastbeef in a smokey coat with tartare sauce, capers and French fries” (CHF 17.00) was a good start. The meat is aromatic but the portion is a bit small.

However, what the place is kind of famous for is the “tartar symphony” which consists of six different tartars – 1) “beef tartar Tuscany with Grappa di Brunello, sun-dried tomatoes, parmesan”, 2) “beef tartar Normandy with Calvados, glaced apples”, 3) “veal tartar casimir with yellow fruit curry, backed bananas, fruit, and basmati rice”, 4) “buffalo tartar African with paradise corns, cardamon, cummin, couscous”, 5) “salmon tartar Norwegian with sour cream, dill, onions, capers, horseradish, dark rye bread”, and 6) “avocado tartar Mexican with couscous, coriander, cummin, corn, antipasti vegetables” (CHF 37.00). While it looked quite tiny at first I must admit it is actually quite a large portion and also a very good one. The veal tartar as well as the buffalo tartar were definitely my favourite ones – lovely in taste and definitely out of the ordinary.

Of course you get a decent amount of toast with all these tartars but frankly speaking it does not quite fit to the avocado tartar that much. However, for the rest, it is definitely enough.

If you order the tartar, make sure you won’t have too much of the bread and spread as else it will be definitely too much bread.

The place itself is rather simple and not too appealing according to my personal gusto – however, it is decently decorated and you come here more for the food than for the atmosphere. The service is friendly, attentive, and dedicated.

To sum it up, the place is quite simple but the selection of dishes is fine, especially if you are into meat. And the dishes are actually quite good – so whenever you feel like trying very different tartars I can absolutely recommend you this place!
