15. October 2015: Restaurant Alter Torkel

| December 28, 2015 | 0 Comments

As every year when it is time to prepare the four weeks of army for the upcoming year, it was our duty to pay the Alter Torkel a visit – and as always we started with “brawn” (CHF 15.00). The selection is good as always and the brawn is tasty as always.

The “veal back steak from Emmental with fresh cep mushrooms and noodles” (CHF 42.00) did not only sound tasty but it was actually absolutely yummy. The meat was tender and cooked exactly to my liking.

The noodles were rather boring but cooked perfectly. However, I would have liked some additional sauce with them on top of what you already get with the meat.

The ice cream (2 scoops, CHF 6.50) was very average though. They had other desserts on the menu but none of it was really tickling my taste buds so I went for ice cream. But frankly, I should have just left out dessert because compared to the other dishes it was rally a disappointment.

As the name already suggests, there is one thing which is amazing about the “Alter Torkel” – the atmosphere. Because there is a huge old torkel in the middle of the dining room. And I must admit that it is not only nice to see but it is also creating a very nice, relaxing atmosphere. The display of the various wine bottles on the walls definitely adds to that.

The service is not only dedicated but only professionally jovial and friendly at the same time. And the prices are very fair for what you get – which is also true for the beverages (i.e. water, CHF 10.50; double espresso, CHF 6.50). If you are in the area, you should definitely have dinner at the Alter Torkel.
