19. October 2015: Restaurant Palmhof

| December 30, 2015 | 0 Comments

I more or less randomly stumbled upon the Restaurant Plamhof via EasyDining.ch and I must say it was a positive discovery. The “boar ravioli by Patrizia Fontana with red wine figs and caramelized nuts” (CHF 18.50, respectively CHF 9.25 with EasyDining.ch) were absolutely lovely and aromatic. However, the portion was quite small, even as a starter.

The “veal cordon bleu, filled with pecorino and smoked ham Montanella (IT) with fried potatoes and vegetable” (CHF 45.50, respectively CHF 22.75 with EasyDining.ch) was definitely rich in taste despite the fact that it had a rather weird form. And again, it was a bit too small for my personal gusto.

For dessert, I went for a couple of scoops of ice cream, “Röteli and Lavender” (CHF 4.60 per scoop, respectively CHF 2.30 with EasyDining.ch). Frankly, although the starter and the main course were good, the dessert was definitely my highlight. I mean, I have never tried Röteli or Lavender ice cream before. Definitely worth trying. It is not a taste I could every day but it is a particular taste – and a good one.

The place is simple in its layout and atmosphere but has a very strong traditional element to it. Despite the fact that you are in central Zurich (at least more or less), you feel like you are in a farmer’s house somewhere in the countryside. And that is definitely meant in a positive way. The waiter seemed to be the owner at the same time and he was friendly and dedicated.

Besides that, the prices for the beverages are actually very decent – 0,5L of “Casa Castillo Monastrell DO, 2013, Finca Casa Castillo José-Maria Sanchez” account for CHF 42.50, a double espresso for CHF 5.80 and 1L of water for CHF 9.50.

Frankly speaking, without EasyDining.ch I would probably not have found the Palmhof. I must admit that the place is atmospheric, the food is good, the service is friendly but I am not entirely sure what to think about the prices. I mean, the food is worth paying for, not a question, but on the other hand I must also say that the portions are rather tiny. Still, if you go here with EasyDining.ch, it is definitely good deal!
