21. October 2015: Restaurant White Elephant

| December 30, 2015 | 0 Comments

Given the White Elephant is a restaurant located in the Marriott hotel, I would probably not have walked in randomly but as the restaurant is also listed on EasyDining.ch I paid it a visit and started with “Krathong Thong (crispy tartelettes with spicy tuna salad)” (CHF 15.00). Definitely very yummy!

While we had the starter, the amuse bouche was served. Definitely a bit of a weird order but after all it was a small and tasty amuse bouche and as the starter was to share anyway, it was fine to have it in between.

The “Ped Pad Grapau (fried duck stripes with basil leaves)” (CHF 44.00, respectively CHF 22.00 with EasyDining.ch) was delicious, especially through the crispiness of the fried basil leaves but it was also on the spicier end of the scale.

What I considered a bit surprising is the fact that you have to pay extra for the “fried rice” (CHF 6.00, respectively CHF 3.00 with EasyDining.ch), especially as the dish itself without rice does only make limited sense.

The service was very friendly and dedicated but somehow also a bit slow. The serving of the amuse bouche after the starter is the perfect example of that. Else, the prices are fair for what you get, and become even better when using EasyDining.ch. Which is not fully true for the drinks though. The Mai Thai Silk (CHF 16.00) is fine in taste and price. Charging CHF 8.50 for 0,5L water is a bit of a rip-off though. Even for Zurich standards.

All in all, the Restaurant White Elephant offers good food in a fine atmosphere with good service for fair prices.
