17. November 2015: Restaurant Oberer Mönchhof
The “white polenta soup with truffles” as an amuse bouche was definitely a nice start into the evening. Especially, as for a change you got something warm to start.
I went for the “bio onsen egg. leek cream. porcini. kohlrabi. roasted onions” (CHF 26.00) which was absolutely lovely. The creaminess of the egg in combination with the roasted onions which provided the respective crunchiness to the dish was perfect.
The main course was a bit of a disappointment though – I went for “tuna steak. gyoza. pumpkin. kimchi. peanuts” (CHF 58.00) and while the dish looked absolutely promising it was actually not that outstanding. The gyoza were lovely though.
What is great about the Restaurant Oberer Mönchshof is the atmosphere – it is really like in a traditional farmer’s house and the service is friendly, attentive and dedicated. Frankly, I was a bit disappointed with regards to the prices though. I mean, the price for the onsen egg is absolutely fine but CHF 58.00 for a tuna steak is a bit steep. The prices for the beverages are fine though – a bottle of water accounts for CHF 8.50, a double espresso for CHF 7.00.
