23. December 2015: Restaurant Leuen
The “beefsteak tartar (spicy with toast and butter)” (CHF 18.50) was a pretty regular, average beef tartar but what was actually outstanding was the fact that the waiter already brought more butter and toast when the tartar was served. Usually, you have to ask mid-tartar for more butter and toast and then you have to wait until it arrives at your table. Not so this time!
The “fresh, cut veal livers, served with crispy roesti” (CHF 34.50) was generally good. The veal liver was rich but there were quite a few pieces which were a bit too chewy for my personal gusto but the seasoning was absolutely good.
The Leuen is absolutely lovely with regards to the inside decoration as it seems that they built the restaurant in an old farmer’s house. The service personnel is friendly and swift and the beverages (i.e. Amarone L’Anima di Vergani, 2011, 1DL, CHF 10.60; Henniez 1L, CHF 8.80) were served quite quickly after the order was placed.
Overall, the Restaurant Leuen is a lovely place with decent food for fair prices and decent service. If you want to have lunch there it is highly recommended to book a table in advance though as the place was completely crowded.
