26. December 2015: Restaurant Krafft

| February 27, 2016 | 0 Comments

To offer a surprise menu (CHF 65.00) is actually quite a good idea. At least it is something I haven’t seen so often yet. The first course was “seabass on leek with mushrooms and star anise”. The mushrooms and leek bed served as a good basis for the sea bass which was good but a bit too dry.

The main course was quite interesting in its combination – “Duck, Veal, Vanilla”. While I liked the vanilla hash browns quite a lot and while the veal was actually aromatic, the duck was a bit too dry respectively chewy for my gusto.

Although I am not a big fan of chocolate, the “chocolate cake with vanilla orange ice cream on quince” was lovely. Although I mainly liked the ice cream but the chocolate cake was of a beautiful liquidity inside which was mouth-watering.

The atmosphere of the Restaurant Krafft is actually lovely – and if you manage to book early, I would recommend you to book a table by the windows with view onto the river. The service is dedicated and does a good job but there is still some room for improvement with regards to attentiveness (e.g. re-filling wine and water glasses). The prices are very fair – especially for the surprise menu – which is also true for the beverages (i.e. water, 1L, CHF 9.60; Barbera Superiore d’Asti Nizza, CHF 68.00; Double Espresso, CHF 6.50).

Overall, I can recommend the Restaurant Krafft as the dishes are good (especially considering the price), the service is okay and the atmosphere is nice.
