25. July 2010: Restaurant Scala @Hotel Montana

| July 26, 2010 | 0 Comments

The Restaurant Scala is part of the Hotel Montana in Lucerne. It has an inner dining room as well as a big terrace where you can have lunch or dinner. The Hotel Montana is not really reachable by public transportation but there is a little rack railway which leads from the lakeside to the Hotel Montana.

What you see at first entering the terrace is the marvelous view all over Lake Lucerne and the city of Lucerne. It’s just splendid and breath-taking.

The lunch menu to choose from offers a nice selection and especially the “Scala Lunch” menu which we had offers you the possibility to pick between 3 or 4 dishes from a total selection of around 10 dishes. We’ve decided to go for the 3-courses lunch and started with scallops. The dish was rich in taste and the combination of the sauce and the scallops made it really interesting.

As a main dish, we’ve enjoyed veal steak which was done to the point ending up in tender meat that you were almost able to cut the meat with the backside of your knife. The sauce was a bit thin but strong in taste. The vegetables were just steamed and okay in taste.

The final plate was a cheese platter with a selection of different cheeses chosen by the waiter. Also, the variety from soft to hard cheese and the variety in strengths of taste was well-chosen.

The waiter was very friendly and helpful at all times, serving what we’ve ordered and re-filling our wine glasses and water glasses without us saying something. The only little lack was the lack in speed. Although the view is splendid, two and a half hours is a bit long for a lunch with only three courses looking at the fact that the courses aren’t really big and breaks of more than 30 minutes between the courses are a bit too long for my personal taste.

The prices are fair – paying CHF 56.00 for a 3-courses lunch – especially taking into consideration the quality of the food, the location and the marvelous view all over Lucerne.

The Restaurant Scala @Hotel Montana is definitely a place to go to – try to get a table on the terrace in summer and the view will pay you back for minor mistakes happening by the service or the kitchen (not that this has happened to us, but still).
