Not fulfilling my expectations: Restaurant Olimpia (22. February 2016)
Since I am in Lugano on a regular basis I was usually quite happy when I’ve left a restaurant after dinner. However, this time I was not entirely satisfied. When you enter the place which is located in the center of Lugano, you are brought to your table by a waiter which is friendly and helpful. Shortly after, you are served a “bruschetta” as an amuse bouche which is very simple.
I decided to go for the “pomodoro e mozzarela” (CHF 22.00) as a starter and had asked if it was possible to have a smaller portion to actually get it as a starter which was declined. Well, I get that you have one buffala and you don’t want to keep it open but when the guest asks you to do a smaller portion it shouldn’t be that difficult. The buffala was very delicious but the tomatoes were not really that ripe yet (okay, my own bad for eating tomatoes in winter).
I was not quite sure what to get as a main course so I asked the waiter if he can recommend something. I was recommended the dish of the day which was “ravioli neri farciti ai gamberi con pomodoro fresco e basilico” (CHF 24.00) and while it was good although it didn’t need the crumbles (and I did not really see that much basil but dried leaves), I am of the opinion that CHF 3.00 per raviolo is a bit much.
Overall, the place is nice, the waiter was friendly but somehow too talkative (maybe because I was having dinner alone?) and I did not quite agree with the price performance ratio. Personally, at least for the dishes – the beverages were fine (e.g. double espresso, CHF 5.50; 0,5L water, CHF 3.80) – I was not really happy with the price performance ratio. For me, the Olimpia is not a place I will go again.
