A place to eat – if you must: Restaurant Commercianti (30. March 2016)

| May 23, 2016 | 0 Comments

As the city center of Lugano does offer quite some choices but in the end the number of restaurants is still rather limited, I tried the Commercianti again after being too late (no food served after 10pm) the last time. We entered around 9:40pm and were told that they’d serve us, given we would order right away – which we did.

I went for the “asparagus soup with whipped cream” (CHF 11.00) as a starter and while it was tasting like asparagus, it was incredibly thin and watery. Not really the way you would want your soup to taste.

The “Tagliatelle al Salmone Bio Affumicato” (CHF 22.00) was also okay. The noodles were al dente, the salmon was fine in taste too. What was a bit awkward for my gusto was the fact that they would only apply the cheese to the dish themselves and not leave the cheese “pot” on the table.

What you get is okay – but definitely not the best food I have had in Lugano. When it comes to the restaurant itself it is absolutely okay but you can see that it is a place which has lived and it was probably nice at one time but now they are at the brink of being “run-down” and “resting on their former glory”. When it comes to the service, the waiter and waitress were friendly, nothing to complain here.

To sum it up, it is okay to eat here but nothing more. So if you are absolutely hungry and this is the only restaurant open, go for it. If not, then take the time and walk a bit further so you would get better dishes in a nicer atmosphere.
