Great performance, not really that Spanish: Restaurant Casa Franco (31. March 2016)

| May 26, 2016 | 0 Comments

Authentic Spanish experience is what you are looking for? Casa Franco is the wrong place! A fun experience where you get decent dishes for a fair price in a vivid atmosphere: Casa Franco is the right place!

Once you are seated, hint: reservation highly recommended, you are served with “aioli, bread, and olives” and quite a generous portion of all of the elements. The aioli is rich and – obviously – strongly garlic-y.

Like in the sister Restaurant Caramba Especial they have around the corner, it is a lot about the “show effect.” You do not get to pick dishes here but there is a menu and that is what you get. It starts with “scampi in cognac olive oil and garlic” which are served with a show effect.

But the show effect is not all that is to the dish – the scampi are actually quite rich and aromatic, a bit too dry for my personal gusto but the amount of garlic they are swimming in, allows you to dip the tasty oil with the bread – lovely!

The second course are two types of “fish filet with cocktail sauce and salad”. The swordfish (to the left) was good in taste but too dry. The other fish was fine but nothing special in taste.

You get to pick if you want meat or fish as a main course, and I obviously went for meat. The “Argentinian beef with vegetables and salad” was served without salad. The meat itself was better than I had expected as it was full with flavour.

For dessert, a “Crema Catalana à la Casa Franco” was served which was not really that much of a crema catalana but nevertheless good.

The place itself is rather small so it is advisable to book a table in advance – also, if you are not so much in to noise, respectively a loud atmosphere, I would not recommend you to go here. However, if you like entertainment and live music, then the Casa Franco is definitely worth visiting as it is an experience. The dishes are absolutely fine, the prices are decent, and the entertainment level is high!
