4. August 2010: Restaurant Geeren

| August 5, 2010 | 0 Comments

The Restaurant Geeren is located in the little tiny town of Geeren (part of Dübendorf) and is not reachable by any means of public transportation, so you have to somehow approach it by private means of transportation (e.g. car or the like).

The restaurant is located right next to the main crossing of the tiny town. I haven’t seen the restaurant from the inside but the outside patio looks quite nice. It’s basically in the middle of trees and has decent chairs and a long dark wooden bench. The only little shortcomming is that the chairs and the tables totally do not match together.

The waitresses are really friendly and helpful, and took their time to explain us what some dishes on the menu actually meant. One hint in advance, if you want to go there, go after 6pm as before 6pm you only get a smaller menu which doesn’t have the real big good meat. Secondly, they do not take any kinds of credit cards, so it’s advised to bring cash along.

I’ve went for the “Rahmgeschnetzeltes mit Chäshörnli” which was quite a big portion and tasted rich for being Chäshörnli and Rahmgeschnetzeltes.

As a desert, I’ve had a Coupe Dänemark which was just about good – okay, there’s nothing special about liquid chocolate and vanilla icecream, but still.

The prices are absolutely okay for what you get. We’ve paid about CHF 22.50 for the main dish and CHF 9.50 (comparatively much if you compare to the main dish) for the Coupe Dänemark. Still, what you pay for what you get is more than acceptable!

The Restaurant Geeren is a great place to go to eat some hearty typical Swiss dishes in the middle of nowhere sitting outside in the patio and enjoying the quietness and the good food. It’s astonishingly crowded though, so – depending on what time you want to go – it’s advised to make a reservation in advance.
