Tasty dishes on tiny tables: Restaurant Yamas (12. September 2016)
I love returning to the Yamas – but I figured that I will never dine again on the bar tables outside. Absolutely not enough space there to properly eat more than one dish. I started with the “Dakos (Cretan cuisine) with tomatoes, feta, onions, with olive oil on dried bread” (CHF 12.00). While the Dakos are tasty, they are not really ideal to eat as the bread breaks in pieces and you end up with very oily hands.
As a main, I went for the “octopus salad à la Mykonos with baby potatoes, carrots, fresh onions in a white wine vinaigrette” (CHF 19.50). The dish itself is generally absolutely good – however, unfortunately, the salad sauce had a bit a taste and smell of petrol. Not really how I would want my salad to taste.
The service is friendly and helpful and while I like the concept of “your dishes are served whenever they are ready”, I would appreciate some timing with it given the table is so incredibly small when you order four dishes. What goes quite well with it, is a glass of the “Gaia S 2013 (Peloponnes)” (CHF 7.90) – one of the better Greek wines I have tried so far.
Overall, I still like the Yamas a lot. However, I prefer to sit inside where you have proper space to eat. Booking in advance highly recommended.
