Lovely beef tartar for lunch: Restaurant Bärengasse (27. September 2016)
It is quite some time ago since I have been at one of Dieter Meier’s restaurants and the last time, the Ojo de Agua in Frankfurt, it was absolutely delicious. It was about time to try another restaurant of his – or rather re-try as I have had lunch here before – and the “beef tartar – classic version spicy home-made” (CHF 36.00) was really quite appealing. And it did not only look lovely but it actually also tasted excellent.
After having the order placed, it had arrived rather quickly. Unfortunately, that was not true though for the dessert. My company ordered a “chocolate soufflé” which takes 15 minutes to prepare. Well, it was a close bet, admittedly, but we had 30 minutes left when placing the order before we had to run. And the waitress promised us to provide the chocolate soufflé, the double espresso (CHF 6.00) and the sour cream and mango ice cream (CHF 6.00) plus the bill within the 15 minutes. Well, guess what: Did not happen!
Only after basically insisting, they finally managed to bring the dessert but not the double espresso or the bill. So only after asking again (!) they finally provided all the ordered elements. They definitely were friendly, yes, but the speed of the service was not satisfactory and if you promise me to deliver in time, then do it – or don’t promise it!
The small patio in the entrance area of the Credit Suisse is actually quite lovely and you can enjoy your lunch outside while not actually being exposed much to the rather cold temperatures of September. Overall, the Restaurant Bärengasse offers good dishes for a rather fair price and the atmosphere is nice – but the service is definitely not up to the task.
