A real café with outstanding breakfast selection: Café Einstein Stammhaus (26. November 2016)
If you do not know the Café Einstein Stammhaus you kind of don’t stand a chance of walking into it randomly as it is quite hidden and even from the outside you are wondering like three times if you are at the right place to enter the restaurant. Once in, you experience the feeling of a really old coffee house like you imagine it was in the 50ies.
We went for the “Einstein breakfast for two (served on an étagère: selection of sausages and cheese, home marinated salmon and chicken salad with madras curry, goat cheese, herbal curd, selection of fresh fruit, yogurt with berries and maple syrup, jam, honey, boiled egg, croissant, butter, selection of bread)” (EUR 27.00) and the selection is actually really quite outstanding. There is definitely enough food for two people – and it is not only enough, it is also quite good.
You find something for everyone – and everything is there for both parties unlike in other breakfast places where you would have to be quick to get that ‘one thing which is only there once’. Here, no jealousy or speed decides on who gets what as both get exactly the same.
While the dishes are absolutely fine in price the beverages are a bit on the more expensive side, i.e. a pot of “darjeeling F.T.G.F.O.P. first flush” accounts for EUR 6.80 which is still okay but a glass of “fresh orange juice” for EUR 6.00 is definitely a rip-off in my books. However, overall, the breakfast is very good and the coffee house atmosphere is lovely. The place is booming despite it’s relatively sub-optimal location as it was completely full on Saturday and Sunday morning.
