Perfect for a meaty lunch: Restaurant Palavrion (16. December 2016)

If you are up for a meaty lunch, then the Restaurant Palavrion is the perfect place for that intention. I started with a “roast beef – thinly cut beef steak with tuna sauce, capers, onions, and grilled vegetables” (CHF 19.95). While the tuna sauce creates kind of a ‘vitello tonato’ experience, it actually is quite good with the perfectly cooked “roast beef” and also nicely surprising as usually you would have a ‘vitello tonato’ with veal and not as a ‘manzo tonato’ with beef.

The “beef burger, 200gr “Swiss Prim” beef, freshly prepared every day” (CHF 29.95) is quite a portion. I was a bit surprised though that they did not ask how you want your meat prepared but just bring it to you in ‘medium’ (which is fine but somehow I would expect the waiter to ask if you want it medium or medium rare or well done). However, the bun is a bit sloppy, the French fries are generally fine but not outstanding and the portion is definitely too big if you have already had a starter.

The service is friendly and attentive – shortly after being seated, we received the menu, our order was taken, and the beverages were served. However, when the starter had been served, a waiter showed up asking if it was fine if they main was already served. Given I was still in the middle of eating my starter, I asked them to wait 5 more minutes with serving the main dish. Somehow, the concept of 5 minutes was not really what the waiter understood – and it took them a good 15 minutes until the main was served. Definitely too long. Secondly, when it came to ordering the bill, it took much longer than expected. I mean, this is seriously something restaurants have to work on – why can everything else be almost perfect (more or less at least) and then it takes them ages to bring the bill to your table.

However, if you are into a meaty lunch, the Palavrion is a good choice for a fair price – which is also true for the beverages, i.e. “Double Espresso” accounts for CHF 5.90. A 0,8l bottle of “Rhäzünser” for CHF 9.90 though is quite a stretch. Booking for lunch highly recommended as the place was completely packed.
