10. August 2010: Restaurant La Taverne du Château
The Restaurant La Taverne du Château is located in walking distance from the Nantes SCNF main station (about 5 minutes) and is the one restaurant around there which has the longest opening hours for lunch (till 3pm). All other restaurants in the area close their kitchen at latest 2:30pm. The place looks a bit cheap from the outside and the picture doesn’t really change when you’re inside.
Although somehow it feels like being in an old Western Inn, it still comes across cheap.
The waiter is only as friendly as he has to be and didn’t seem really happy that we’ve just shown up at 2:45pm to order lunch. We went for the set menu which includes a starter and a main dish for 10 EUR. As a starter I went for a salad with smoked salmon which was okay in taste in general but the salmon didn’t taste like much.
As a main dish I went for a for a fish filet. The fish itself was good but the sauce didn’t taste like anything. Also the rice and the vegetables were quite tasteless – luckily there was salt on the table.
The price on the other hand is fine, being 10 EUR for a starter and a main dish. All in all, the Restaurant La Taverne du Château is the perfect place to go if you’re stuck at the main station and are a bit hungry. But the place is not worth going there neither for the food or service.
