11. August 2010: Restaurant Le Père Raballand

| August 12, 2010 | 0 Comments

The restaurant Le Père Raballand is located on the island Île-d’Yeu which is reachable by a ferry only from the mainland (Fromentine). It is about a 45-minutes ride till you’re there. The restaurant is located in the main street right next to the port where you can find a lot of restaurants.

The Le Père Raballand is a quite booked restaurant why it’s recommendable to make a reservation if you want to eat there. There are two shifts, one at 7pm and one at 9:30pm. If you prefer to sit a bit after eating, you should book for the second shift.

The restaurant has a little terrace which is covered where you can sit outside. They decorate it nicely but it’s not really that the atmospheric effect kicks in. It looks quite simple but the atmosphere is not the reason why you go there.

The waitresses are friendly and helpful and you get quite quickly an “Amuse Bouche” from the kitchen consisting of mussels in vinegar. The vinegar taste is quite strong, but still, the mussels taste good.

The restaurant offers two different “special” menues, one being the “Menue touristique” and one the “Menue préferée”. Each is a selection of a starter, main dish and a desert. I went for the touristic version and started with a plate of mussels.

The mussels were delicious and the sauce which came with it was exquisite. You just wanted to have more of that sauce and order bread on the side in order to dip it in the sauce.

As a main dish I’ve had grilled tuna fish together with home-made sauce bernaise and vegetables. The whole dish was very rich in taste.

As a desert I had two different cheeses melted on bread and a little salad. A bit an ackward desert (especially because of the salad), but it tasted okay. Not close as good as the first two dishes, but eatable.

We’ve paid 16.10 EUR for the menu which is extremly cheap for what you get. If you’re on the Île-d’Yeu, you should definitely go to the Le Père Raballand to eat out and have seafood – it’s delicious!
