Absolutely outstanding service performance by Julia: Restaurant Brasserie Freilager (26. January 2017)

When I first visited the Restaurant Brasserie Freilager approximately one month ago, I was not really happy the service was unsatisfactory, the dishes were okay but nothing exceptional and I had expected just more. This time, everything was a bit different, and no only different but actually better. The waitress, Julia, did an exceptional job and recommended the daily soup, a “bread soup” (CHF 12.00) which was a very satisfying dish after a cold day.

The “beef tartar with the spicy home-made seasoning” (CHF 36.00) did not only look appealing but was rich. The quality of the meat was good and it was perfectly seasoned as per request (medium spicy).

The amount of toast served with the tartar was sufficient and the butter was light and smooth. However, the toast was somehow a bit too dry for my personal gusto.

Before the actual meal was served, we got some “bread and a sun-dried tomato spread” which was luscious. I mentioned Julia earlier and for a reason. You know, there is two ways to attend a guest: One is when your job is a job, and one is, when your job is a calling. And for Julia it is definitely the second. While there were minor flaws (like it took a bit too long until the second tea arrived), she was always incredibly friendly, apologizing when the tea didn’t come and didn’t play it down but was honestly saying sorry and then made up for it with a lovely smile and her jovial attitude. If you have a gem like her in your staff, consider yourself lucky.

The atmosphere in the restaurant is overall quite lovely – it is modern, spacious, and nicely decorated. And the large window front definitely adds to the atmosphere. And what is quite surprising – for Zurich – are the prices for the beverages (i.e. “mint tea” (CHF 4.00), “1l water” (CHF 6.00), “double espresso” (CHF 5.00)). After this visit, I can recommend the Restaurant Brasserie Freilager definitely way more than after the first one – and it once more proves that good service (and obviously good food) is the key to a happy customer.
