Old run-down breakfast place with non-attentive service: Le Colonial Café @ Le Méridien Nice (19. February 2017)

| April 6, 2017 | 0 Comments

I stayed at the Le Méridien Nice in 2014 and I was not entirely persuaded of the hotel. And well, this time, it started way better as I got upgraded to the Panoramic Junior Suite which is a corner suite and you have a view all over the coast of Nice – which is quite nice. Especially in the evenings when the sun goes down and when the sun gets up in the morning.

However, when it is about the breakfast, I was again not entirely satisfied. The selection at the breakfast buffet is quite okay – you find everything from various breads to cold cuts, salmon, vegetables, various cheeses, bacon, eggs, etc. – nothing to complain but definitely nothing exclusive either. A good and sound breakfast selection.

And if you get to score a table towards the coast, then the view is quite nice (make sure to bring your sunglasses as else you won’t see anything). However, the service is …. I can’t even say horrible, as it is non-existent. You are welcomed (so they can check if you’re a guest at the hotel or not) but then the service pretty much stops. While the first morning, someone came to ask if I wanted coffee or tea (and it was served relatively quickly), the second morning the two head ladies were heavily chatting and not noticing anyone. So I walked up to them and asked for a double espresso and was assured I would get it in no time. Well I got it in no time, meaning, I did not get it at all. Not really how I imagine service! And during the whole 30 minutes or so I spent at the breakfast table, not once a waitress or waiter felt like it might be smart to approach the guests to ask if they wanted anything. But hey, making sure that all the buffet is gone at 10:30 am sharp! Priorities!

Secondly, the place is nice with regards to the view if you have a good table but the whole area is rather aged and a bit overdue to be renewed – not that there are any signs of the hotel doing so. But they really should!

So, to sum it up – if you are a Platinum member and get the free breakfast as a benefit. Take it. If not, don’t eat here.
