22. August 2010: Restaurant Mönchhof am See

| August 24, 2010 | 0 Comments

The Restaurant Mönchhof am See is located right next to the Zurich Lake. It is located in the Kreis 2, in a little suburb city of Zürich, namely Kilchberg. You can easily reach it by public transportation (bus 161 or 165, stop: Stadtgrenze).

It’s most easily reachable by car though as it is quite far from the Zurich city center. The restaurant is located outside right next to the shore and offers you a great view over Lake Zurich. The garden furniture is quite cheap though – plastic chairs and cheap tables.

The waitress is as friendly as a piece of wood – not at all. You don’t get a smile neither a welcome or anything else. You can just plainly see that she doesn’t like her job.

We’ve had Raclette as a starter which tasted okay. The main course was a trout with mixed salad. The trout was really good in taste but the salad was quite bland – also the sauce didn’t taste like much.

The waitress brought us bread to the table and we thought it’s part of the service but actually they charge you CHF 1.40 for each bread, even though you might not even have eaten all of them. For me, that’s a complete no-go! Besides that, the prices are quite fair (CHF 23.10 for a trout plus CHF 3.00 if you choose salad instead of baked potatoes).

All in all, the Mönchhof am See is a nice restaurant but mainly because of the atmopshere: You have a great view, a relaxed environment and a DJ playing relaxation music in the background. The service is okay in speed but horrible in friendliness – also ignoring requests from time to time. The food is okay in general (the trout was really good, the salmon was eatable) and the prices are fine as well. But be careful for what you’re being charged.
