Good sushi selection but lacking a proper lunch menu: Restaurant Kai Sushi Lessing (5. April 2017)

| June 9, 2017 | 0 Comments

I walked by the Kai Sushi a couple of times and when I used to work in its proximity, I always wanted to pay the restaurant a visit, however, I never actually managed to do so! Finally, after several years, I managed – and it is worth doing so. Although we did not have booked a table in advance, we were lucky enough to score a table for two. As the ‘sushi plates’ looked a bit tiny, I figured, I should not only have the “Sushi Tasting Plate (4 pieces of Nigiri, 6 pieces of Maki, 4 pieces of Ukramaki)” (CHF 35.00) which tasted great …

… but also the “Tuna Wasabi (tuna tartar, wasabi peas, tobikko wasabi, cucumber, pickled tuna)” (CHF 14.00) which was even better (and more interesting). The place is furnished quite simply but in a way that you nevertheless feel comfortable right away.

With regards to the service, there is definitely some room for improvement – our waiter was friendly but did not really speak German so we had some issues with our order but they were resolved rather rapidly.

Overall, the dishes in the Kai are absolutely good, however, you definitely have to be a bit patient, depending on which waiter you get. Secondly, the prices are steep but okay for what you get. But it is a pity that there is no such thing as a lunch menu which I would – somehow – have expected of a restaurant which is located close to a place where a lot of people work. Thirdly, the prices for the beverages are a bit over the top – 0,5l water for CHF 6.50 and CHF 7.00 for a double espresso is, even for Zurich, quite a steep price. However, overall, you get good food in a nice atmosphere with caring service – but you have to make sure you book your table in advance.
