Where you still get a decent portion for the price: Restaurant Olivé @ Radisson Blu St. Gallen (8. May 2017)

| July 23, 2017 | 0 Comments

This evening, I was eating at the restaurant of the hotel I was staying at, where I also got – for the first time – a nice suite upgrade.

Once seated, you are served “olive oil, bell pepper butter, and regular butter” with two types of bread. Perfect to kill the emerging small hunger you always get when right after you’re seated.

The order was taken up rather swiftly, and my starter – a “carrot soup with ginger and coconut milk” (CHF 8.00) was served. The soup was rich and not too watery as is the case so often in other restaurants.

As a main, I went for the “Blu Burger (with beef, bacon, cheese, onions, tomatoes, and French fries)” (CHF 24.00). The buns are quite heavy, so I decided to skip the bread and just enjoy the patty. And it was very decent. The French fries were delicious but were – somehow – also quite huge. In terms of the actual size of each single one but also as a portion.

The restaurant itself is quite decent in terms of decoration, respectively layout. But frankly, in the mornings it somehow looks more appealing than in the evening. The service is friendly and does a good job – however, they could be more active, more attentive. At some point two of them were discussing together while a potential customer was screening the menu at the entrance – and none of them moved to approach the customer and he walked away. Also a way to deal with business – by not dealing with it.

Other than that, the prices are absolutely decent – especially for the dishes (also considering the size of the portion). The 1l of sparkling water for CHF 9.00 on the other hand seems proportionally too expensive considering that the burger and the fries account for CHF 24.00.
