When suddenly dust is ‘raining’ from above onto your overpriced meal: Restaurant CLOUDS (16. July 2017)

| October 20, 2017 | 0 Comments

A decent selection is what you get for brunch (CHF 65.00) at the Restaurant CLOUDS ranging from a nice variety of different breads …

… fresh smoked salmon where you can help yourself and basically scratch the salmon off the fish …

… rather Spanish breakfast elements like tortilla …

… a variety of different meat and seafood dishes like smoked salmon and vitello tonato as well as tomato and mozzarella salad and Russian eggs …

… even a small selection of sushi …

… and freshly cut avocado complete the ‘healthy part’ of the breakfast.

What can’t be missing in any decent brunch is a selection of cold cuts and cheeses …

… and the regular ‘American breakfast’ like potatoes, sausages and bacon …

… as well as proper meat with mushroom sauce.

You can also order an egg dish of your choice. However, beware if you are extremely hungry and want to eat right away as it takes more than 20 minutes until your egg dish arrives at the table. And as you can see from the picture, it is a rather tiny portion. And in my case they didn’t even manage right – I had ordered a “cheese and bacon” omelet and I got a “cheese and ham” omelet. Almost but still not.

Once you’re done with the savory part of the breakfast you can always enjoy the sweet part with a healthier element like the fresh fruit …

… or a bit an unhealthier element like the chocolate fountain.

There are also some beverages like water, mango juice and orange juice included in the brunch. However, if you want to have anything else like for example a “double espresso” (CHF 6.50) or a glass of “Prosecco” (CHF 12.00) you will actually pay for it on top. And considering that the brunch already costs CHF 65.00, I consider it quite a rip off charging an extra CHF 12.00 for a glass of Prosecco.

What is truly amazing about the place though is the view – you get to see all over the city of Zurich and if you are lucky enough to score a table wby the windows (hint: book it in advance), you will be enjoying a marvelous time. However, while the service was friendly and dedicated overall, there are a few flaws. I already mentioned that it took them more than 20 minutes to bring the egg dish. In addition to that they had some issues with their air conditioning as it blew a hell lot of dust out and right onto everybody and everybody’s tables and everybody’s dishes. Not really a pleasant thing to have when you’re seated there and your food gets dusted. However, they didn’t care or bother – it was just like “yeah, it’s probably the AC” instead of offering a coffee (which is a rip-off in the first place). So, all in all, the Restaurant CLOUDS offers a decent brunch but for the fact that you already pay CHF 65.00, I consider it quite harsh to charge additionally for coffee. And the ‘carelessness’ on how they dealt with the dust from the AC is really not how I imagine top service to happen.
