Surprisingly decent beer house in Hamburg: Restaurant Hofbräu Esplande (2. September 2017)
I was not aware that there was a Hofbräuhaus in Hamburg – but hey, there is always the time when you learn something new. Somehow not so surprising, it was almost empty when we entered it on a sunny Saturday afternoon and ordered a “Jausen Brett (meat paste, bacon, pepper biter, cold roast, obadzda, leberkäs, emmental, butter, bread)” (EUR 10.90 per person; 2 people). The dish is hearty and heavy but it works quite well with a slice of bread and creates the appropriate basis for quite some beers.
Adding to that are the “Tyrolean cheese spaetzle served with roasted onions and a market salad” (EUR 12.90). And frankly, the portion is easily large enough for two people – but it is absolutely great in taste. Heavy, hearty, yummy!
While the place itself is quite simple in terms of atmosphere, the two waiters, called Goran and Goran (yeah, they really had the same name) did their utmost to make sure we had a pleasurable experience and they absolutely succeeded. Not only because they were attentive and helpful but even more so because they were jovial and making sure it was fun to be there and sometimes wait a few minutes for our beers.
