Surprisingly tasty French dishes: Restaurant Paul’s (19. November 2017)

| March 26, 2018 | 0 Comments

As one of my colleagues is French it took us quite a while to persuade him to go to Paul’s – and given his resistance, I was expecting nothing much but I was quite positively surprised. The “bread, butter and olive spread” which were served in the beginning were definitely good.

My starter though, the “soup à l’oignon traditionelle (traditional onion soup served in a bread bowl)” (3.300 BHD) was definitely better than I had expected. Not only because the soup itself was great but also because the bread and its crust were much better than expected.

The “vol-au-vent au champignon (4 pieces)” (6.900 BHD) were quite good too but at this point in time I had actually had enough …

… but then the main course arrived – the “saumon frais et quinoa (baked organic salmon, lentils de Puy, braised carrots and celery, grilled asparagus, rocca salad, quinoa, spring onion, cherry tomatoes, served with fresh balsamic reduction)” (9.900 BHD) and I must admit that it was actually surprisingly good. The salmon was a bit too dry for my personal gusto but overall it was a great dish – especially in combination with the quinoa which added a certain ‘crunchiness’ to the dish.

After some starting problems with taking up our order, the waiter was friendly and very attentive. However, if you don’t manage to get it right the first time, it makes me wonder. Still, all in all Paul’s is actually quite a decent place which can definitely be visited.
