6. November 2009: Restaurant Alexander in the Hotel Seeburg

| November 7, 2009 | 0 Comments

The restaurant Alexander is one of two restaurants located in the Hotel Seeburg in Lucerne. The hotel Seeburg is a bit in the outskirts of the city of Lucerne and easily reachable by public transportation or by car (only limited number of parking lots).

The ambiente of the restaurant is very warm and with the beautiful view on Lake Lucerne you feel absolutely cosy right from the moment on you sit down. It’s nicely decorated and the interior designer did a great job: It’s absolutely modern, fashionable and although it’s feels like being in an operating room, it’s very inviting and warm.

The personnel is extremly polite and courteous and fulfills almost every wish within a few minutes. Even the chief of the hotel comes by and asks on about one’s personal well-being. All in all, the service leaves almost no wishes open to the guest. The slight deduction in the rating results from the not optimal wine-choice of the sommelier to the main dish and the promise of the hotel boss to bring us spoons for the 3rd course which never came.

The dishes are absolutely great, we had a 6-courses-meal with started with a surprise from the kitchen:

Amuse BoucheAmuse Bouche: Tuna carpaccio on young aspargus

Jakobsmuscheln

1st course: Grilled scallop on sepia-noodles with a slight garlic-flavour and tomato spume

Kastaniensuppe2nd course: Cushy chestnut soup with a flower-pepper meringue hood and chili cherries

Entenleberpraline3rd course: Confection of the liver of a duck with in whisky sautéd mango cubes and shitake mushrooms

Milchschweinrücken4th course: Young suckling pig’s back with a acacia-beer-icing on alt beer sauce with lye bread dumpling balls

Cheese5th course: A selection of regional and international cheese specialities

Prosecco-Götterspeise6th course: Prosecco ambrosia made of blackberries and raspberries with an elder sorbet

The dishes were absolutely delicious and surprisingly new. The combination of different tastes and flavours in the dishes themselves were overwhelming. A very special experience was the 3rd course with the chocolates of duck liver which actually really had chocolate around the liver – a special, but very interesting taste.

All in all, the place is absolutely recommendable to go to and to enjoy an evening there. The price is at a high range but still for what it actually offers it’s not that expensive. But be sure to a) book your reservation and b) to have enough time to enjoy the evening.
