Overrated French: Restaurant La Petite Maison (30. December 2017)

| May 21, 2018 | 0 Comments

I had high expectations for La Petite Maison as it was recommended to me by a friend who is a real foodie but I must say I was not entirely persuaded of the place. The food was without doubt very good. The “carpaccio de sériole du Japon (yellowtail with avocado and citrus dressing)” (110 AED) was exquisite – smooth and the combination with the avocado provided it with a lovely creaminess.

The “aubergine” (130 AED) was good but lacked a bit of inventiveness.

While I had not expected that, my personal highlight were the “French beans & foie gras” (85 AED)! The beans were just so incredibly aromatic and rich in flavour, something I would not have quite expected. The foie gras cubes on the other side didn’t really add much to the dish – at least not for me.

The “loup de mer préparé en croûte de sel (salt baked fillet of line caught sea bass with artichokes and tomatoes)” (275 AED) was smooth and rich in flavour but a bit tiny as a piece.

While the place itself is actually nice and comfortable, even atmospheric and the food is good, there is one thing which just doesn’t work. Service. To be fair, in the beginning they did a great job – attentive, friendly and swift. But finally, when it was about getting the bill, they failed. And they failed miserably! It took them a solid 10 minutes to bring the bill and then another 10 minutes to bring the machine so I could pay by card. Come one guys, can’t be that difficult! Especially when you manage to serve the food within 30 minutes.

So, all in all, the food is good, place is nice, prices are on the higher side but the service just fails in the end. I’d honestly not recommend it after this – just disappointing!
