Great Tantanmen soup in an authentic atmosphere: Restaurant MIKI | みき | Ramen (1. March 2018)
When you have been based in a country where a lot of Asians are residents for four months, you kind of get accustomed to what good Asian dishes are. So, out of sheer habit, I went for the “Edamame (warm, green soy beans)” (CHF 8.00) and frankly, they were absolutely disappointing. Dry, too small, not tasting like much.
Luckily, the “Gyoza (3 Yasai – vegetables with tofu, 3 Niku – meat)” (CHF 15.00) were definitely better but didn’t rock my world.
What did truly rock my world though was the “Tantanmen (spicy soup on a sesame and chili basis, roasted minced beef and pork meat with Gari, wakame, negi and black sesame)” (25.00). The soup is not only extremely aromatic but has exactly the right amount of spiciness and flavour intensity so you just enjoy it!
There are just a few tables which can be booked in advance. So, if you want to make sure to come at a certain time and find a table, book early. If you are of the patient type and can spend 15 – 30 minutes waiting, then just come, grab a beer and spend your waiting time in the premise. The place is small and very full, so it is relatively loud. The service is friendly and welcoming but not overly caring. All in all, I loved the experience at MIKI Ramen as the main was amazing, the atmosphere is great, and it is all relatively cheap (especially for Zurich standards).
