Decent but average lunch offering: Restaurant AURA (2. March 2018)

| July 31, 2018 | 0 Comments

I’ve never had the Aura on my agenda as a place for meat but it seems like it is quite a famous place for exactly that. The lunch menu is rather reasonable with CHF 49.00 for three courses, starting with “double of veal & tuna on grilled asparagus” (usually CHF 11.00). The portion was disappointingly small but the elements which were to be found on the plate were good.

The “entrecôte of bison with creamy turnip cabbage and potato gratin” (usually CHF 35.00) was good in terms of texture, however, the creamy turnip cabbage and potato gratin really covered all the flavour of the dish. I assume, it would have been taste in its single ingredients and the respective combinations thereof, however, difficult to say, given you were not able to taste any of it really.

The “red berries with vanilla ice cream” (usually CHF 9.00) for dessert were definitely my favourite course. All in all, you get a decent meal for CHF 49.00 with the lunch menu but the starter is a bit stingy and the main was ultimately a mush of flavours which wouldn’t make it much enjoyable.

The bread, however, is quite good. I imagine, if you go for a proper steak, which is what they are famous for, the story is a bit different. Something, I want to try next time.

The service is friendly and swift and ensures that the beverages are served within no time. For me, a quality indicator as I hate nothing more than waiting ages for my water (Rhäzünser, 1l, CHF 10.00). CHF 8.00 for a “double espresso” is a bit of a rip-off though. All in all, the Aura offers a decent lunch menu – I have to come back to try the steak menu properly.
