The foodie scene in Zurich becomes more and more advanced: Zurich Street Food Festival (28. May 2018)

| October 27, 2018 | 0 Comments

The foodie scene in Zurich becomes more and more advanced with each year – and it is great to be a witness of the rapid development. The Food Zurich, respectively the Zurich Street Food Festival is the latest result of that. In the area of Hardturm, they have built a large tent with a variety of food trucks and joints where you get to enjoy a wide selection of different foods from all over the world.

We started with “Takoyaki (3 types: 1x calamari, 2x veggie)” (CHF 6.00) which was, frankly speaking, not really to my gusto.

The “Steamed Panda Buns – Mr. Panda (pork roast (CH), red cabbage, cucumber, zucchetti pickles, peanuts & coriander)” (CHF 9.00) on the other hand …

… was much more to my liking. The cabbage and the pickles made the bite intense but really mouth-watering.

If you have never been to Mexico, I suppose all kind of Mexican street food you can find in Europe is amazing. If you have been to Mexico a couple of times, it is definitely not as enlightening – taste-wise.

The “Tacos Cochinita (pulled pork Mexican Style)” (CHF 10.00, 2 pieces) looked kind of promising but were really a disappointment to me. I mean, there was meat, there was a proper tortilla, there was salsa verde but all in all it just didn’t got as well together as they do in Mexico. Additionally, these have probably been the most expensive tacos I’ve ever eaten in my entire life.

There was one little truck where the queue was definitely the longest. And for a reason!

“The Ami Buffalo Burger (100gr, Swiss buffalo meat, butter cheese, green salad, guacamole, roasted onions, chips, The Ami house sauce)” (CHF 15.00) was definitely worth queuing and after that waiting for quite a bit until you finally get your burger in your hands. And it was absolutely delicious! More than worth trying and queuing up for!

Last but not least, one needed something sweet, so it was perfect for …

… “churros with cinnamon and sugar” (CHF 7.00). And while they looked tasty and were also not too bad, all in all, it wasn’t really a revelation.

To sum it up, the Streetfoodfest is absolutely worth visiting! Just make sure to ‘pick the good things’ as not everything is equally tasty.

But if you have a full day (or potentially more than one), you get to try a lot of different dishes and some of them are absolutely mind-boggling.
