Tatar Monday without toast but caring service: Restaurant Brasserie Freilager (28. May 2018)

| October 28, 2018 | 0 Comments

Due to proximity, convenience and the quality of the food, I keep coming back to the Restaurant Brasserie Freilager. Their “seasonal leaf salad” (CHF 11.00) is simple and luckily a bit more than a leaf salad with tomatoes, sprouts, and radish. And the sauce is, overall, also quite tasty. In my book, the price should be more CHF 9.00 than CHF 11.00 but it is still entirely okay.

On Mondays, they have a “tartar night” and I went for the “classical ‘Ojo de Agua’ tatar (freshbeef with their own home mix)” (CHF 31.00) …

… with “smoked chipotle chips”. While the tartar was absolutely tasty, the smoked chipotle chips were a bit of a disappointment. I mean, the chips were good, sure, but they didn’t taste of much and definitely not really of chipotle as they were just seasoned a bit.

What wasn’t clear to me: You get the chips instead of toasted bread and not on top. While this is not entirely surprising, given the price, it isn’t mentioned anywhere on the menu. So, obviously, I asked the waiter if I was getting some toasted bread. And he was nice enough to actually bring me some ‘on the house’ (with the hint that this is only for this time and will not be like this the next times). I suppose that’s fair and I really appreciated the extra effort and commitment from his side.

Else, as always, the atmosphere is nice, especially if you get to sit outside and enjoy the warm weather. The prices are at the lower end of the Zurich restaurant price spectrum – which is maybe also not so surprising, given the restaurant isn’t really located centrally. All in all, the Restaurant Brasserie Freilager remains a place I will keep coming back to. What is truly important though – book your table in advance!
