So rude and then so lovely: Restaurant Ulrich (23. June 2018)

| November 15, 2018 | 0 Comments

I visited the Ulrich a couple of years back in 2016 (read review) and I liked it quite a bit back then, so I was coming in with a very positive expectation. However, I was very disappointed in the first minutes. After having sat down, nothing happened for quite a while, so I decided to take things into my own hands and get a menu. Well, that wasn’t well received by the waitress who didn’t mind paying attention until that very moment. She came to the table, and snapped at me “this is no self service” and I thought well, apparently it’s no service either.

However, after she had then brought the menu and rushed off, the waiter changed and was very friendly and professional. I went for the “clear chanterelle potato soup with lemon and fresh majoram” (EUR 4.50) which was decent but nothing spectacular.

The “vegan bowl with red hummus, sweet potato chips, avocado, black quinoa, chanterelle, pomegranate, sesame and soy dip” (EUR 9.80) on the other hand was exquisite. It would have been even better if I hadn’t ordered chanterelles already for the starter to not have twice the same but it was good nevertheless.

The prices are very fair for what you get which is also true for the beverages (e.g. 0,75l Vöslauer, sparkling, EUR 4.90; or “Pink Grapefruit Drink” for EUR 4.50). The place itself is fine but nothing outstanding in terms of atmosphere or decoration. All in all, the Ulrich is a nice place for good food but it highly depends on which waitress / which waiter serves you. It can either be a very pleasant experience or a very unpleasant one.
