Humongous German portions – food for a family: Restaurant Aquarama (21. July 2018)
I keep getting surprised every time I go to Germany – the portions are just humongous. I went for a “herb salad with goat cheese and chanterelles” (EUR 12.50) and the thing was incredibly huge. And this was supposed to be a starter. The dish itself was fine, nothing special and some of the chanterelles would have definitely been better off if they were washed better.
The “grilled salmon steak with sides” (EUR 16.90) was okay. The vegetables were fine, the salmon on the other hand didn’t taste like much but due to lemons and salt, it made for a decent dish.
The “small salad” which was served with it was more like the size of the starter salad I originally wanted. I guess, I had to learn the hard way that German portions are too big.
Generally, from a Swiss perspective, that is, the prices are absolutely okay. I mean, where in Zurich would you get 0,5l of water for EUR 3.60? The service does its job. But just that. Friendliness is not really a thing here. It’s more about proper execution of the task. Nothing more. A smile, some jovial words, all not there.
At least the view is quite nice – there is a street between the restaurant and the lake but at least there are almost no cars, so you get to enjoy the view a bit. So, ultimately, all not so bad. Huge portions, lots of food, okay prices, okay view, working service. What else do you want? If you are ready to settle for mediocrity!
