Lovely view but incredibly overprized meals: Restaurant Hide & Seek @ Atlantis by Giardino (15. August 2018)
I was at the Hide & Seek about a year ago and decided to give it another shot – and the evening started with a “melon chili shot” as a first greeting from the kitchen which was refreshing on the one hand side and had a nice hint of spiciness on the other hand side.
The next greeting from the kitchen was the “quinoa salad” which was good but the amount of parsley in it was a bit overwhelming.
The bread itself was rather standard …
… but the butter with the nice salt flakes and the pepper mixture made it quite lovely.
As a starter I went for the “banana soup (turmeric, chili, coconut)” (CHF 17.00) which was – as expected – sweet. But not as in ‘dessert sweet’ but as in a nice way sweet so it was more like a starter. And it was surprisingly delicious! Definitely worth trying!
The “veal filet (celery tonka bean cream, chanterelle, broccoli, Tasmanian mountain pepper)” (CHF 78.00) on the other hand is a rip-off. CHF 78.00 for three small pieces of veal which were okay but far from great, is definitely a rip-off. They were prepared according to my gusto but I just figure for CHF 78.00, you can definitely get more outstanding things than this.
The place itself is lovely – especially as in the balcony area you have a nice view onto the city of Zurich. The waiter, Manuel, did generally a good job as he was super friendly and made you feel like you’re very welcome. However, when it comes to attentiveness, there is definitely room for improvement. He forgot my wine re-order, to bring new water, and only once reminded, it was executed. In terms of beverage prices there is nothing to complain (for Zurich standards) – “double espresso” for CHF 7.00, 0,75l “mineral water” for CHF 9.00 and the half liter bottle for CHF 7.00 plus a glass of Valmana for CHF 11.00.
