Lovely French bistro with a great seafood menu: Restaurant Robert’s Bistro (23. October 2018)
I had been recommended the Robert’s Bistro by a couple of people and I was a bit skeptical at first when I walked in as the place is relatively simple, crowded, somewhat noisy and optically not immediately appealing. You can’t book a table in advance so you are at the grace of the waitresses at the door if there is a space for you. Luckily there was. I was seated between two other tables on a bench but didn’t mind much given I had brought a book with me.
Only when you have placed your order, you get bread and butter.
The menu is heavy on the seafood and fish side – so I went for the “avocado pumpernickel with crabs from Büsum, radish with a poached egg” (EUR 10.50) and while I was not so intrigued after receiving it, it tasted absolutely delicious! Worth trying! It is a bit on the salty side though, to be honest.
The “fish variation (salmon, gilthead, sword fish, prawn) with a tomato chutney and a curry flatbread” (EUR 23.50) is nice but didn’t blow my mind. The starter really was something else but this is average.
What is great though is the place and its liveliness, the friendliness and passion of the service plus the atmosphere. And price-wise things are quite fair for the dishes but also for the beverages (e.g. doppio, EUR 3.50; large bottle of water, EUR 6.30). When you are in Düsseldorf, you should definitely pay a visit to the Robert’s Bistro!
