A unique experience in an amazing setting: Restaurant La Rôtisserie (13. November 2018)
Although the La Rôtisserie is really around the corner, I somehow haven’t managed to pay the place a visit so far. You are welcomed at the entrance very friendly and caring and are brought to your table within no time. Once seated, you’re served “bread and butter” which is rather standard in taste.
After taking up the order in a joking way, Frank, our waiter, did a marvelous job throughout the evening. The kitchen served a little present with “home-amde Iberico ham, sweet potato and bell pepper” mouse which was great to get your palate started.
I decided to have the “beef tartare prepared at the table (flavoured with Whiskey, and seasoned to your liking)” (CHF 32.00) which …
… really is an experience as Frank manages to keep the whole process increasingly entertaining.
Finally, all the ingredients are mixed together by hand and you would end up …
… with two nice scoops of beef tartar. The meat was good and the combination of flavors of the freshly added ingredients really made it delicious!
Upon recommendation, I went for the “Züri Gschnetzeltes (sliced veal served on a mushroom cream sauce with veal kdineys and roesti)” (CHF 54.00) …
… which looked way more appealing once the meat and sauce were also arranged on the plate. The Geschnetzeltes was rich and full of flavor. I understand why people would really like this dish – definitely a great combination of different tastes and textures.
As a sweet, I decided to go for the “white chocolate mousse with fresh fruit” (CHF 14.00) which was surprisingly good. The mousse was a tiny bit too dense for me but else definitely worth having. What I liked a lot was the fact that they made it possible to serve white only chocolate mousse (given the standard dish would have included both).
The view onto the Limmat is great and especially now in winter time when the outside is becoming darker and darker and the lights brighter and brighter, it really becomes atmospheric.
One saying present in the menu is very true, I believe: “One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if you haven’t eaten well”. Kind of shows the motto of the place as you really get to eat well here.
The place was very crowded that evening – so, if you are trying to score a table, book in advance as on short notice in the evening you probably won’t stand a chance to get a table.
