Delicious sister restaurant of Robert’s Bistro: Restaurant Brasserie Hülsmann (4. December 2018)

| May 2, 2019 | 0 Comments

The Brasserie Hülsmann is a sister restaurant of Robert’s Bistro (apparently run by his daughter) and is rather similar in terms of experience. The evening starts with “bread, butter and vegetable sticks” which is quite a nice selection overall.

As a starter I went for the “blood sausage salad” (EUR 10.90) which was way larger than I had expected. Especially the fact that they serve a whole blood sausage and not just pieces was overall rather surprising. The dish itself was absolutely great though – that is, if you like blood sausage.

As a main, I went for the “back of stag, chili nougat sauce, apple, red cabbage, potato mash” (EUR 27.90) which I was rather skeptical about in a first step but once I got to try a bite, I must admit they actually manage to make quite a great stag. The meat was tender, smooth, and generally just very appealing.

The whole place is huge, you can’t book a table in advance but we were somehow lucky that we only had to wait a couple of minutes. With regards to service, they are overall rather swift and also friendly. The prices are not exactly cheap but they are definitely fair for the quality and amount you get. The prices for beverages are generally speaking also okay with EUR 4.50 for a double espresso, respectively EUR 42.00 for a bottle of “Comenge, Familia Comenge, 2012, Ribera del Duero” or EUR 4.30 for 0,5l of sparkling water.

I can definitely recommend the Brasserie Hülsmann – it is a bit less personal than Robert’s Bistro (due to its size). Just make sure you are there early enough so you actually get a table.
