Overpriced and horrible service: Restaurant Damoro @ Morosani Hotel Schweizerhof (25. January 2019)

When expectations are not met, then you’re at the Damoro restaurant in the Morosani Hotel Schweizerhof in Davos! The place looks nice, classy, there are a number of waiters, the interior is design and the menu looks interesting. But all you see is not all you get. The service is super inattentive and really not present. I wonder how they do what they do and why this place remains full but it was absolutely ridiculous how there were like 10 people and still they never managed to get enough wine or water or anything to the table so everyone had something to drink. It can’t be that difficult!

As an amuse bouche, they served “foie gras” which was a nice idea but frankly speaking nothing spectacular.

As a starter, I went for the “la battuta di manzo, la crema di patate al tartufo nero (beef tartar, potato cream with black truffle)” (CHF 28.00) which was okay. The meat was actually good and delicious but the potato cream was way too liquid for my personal gusto and the truffle wasn’t applied selectively but super generously which then led to an overwhelming taste and given it was black truffle, it wasn’t an overly pleasant thing.

As a main, I went for the “la guancia di vitello brasata, la purea di patate al tartufo nero, il radicchio tardivo di Treviso (braised veal cheek, potato puree with black truffles, radicchio from Treviso)” (CHF 52.00) which was – I must admit – delicious. The veal cheek was tender, smooth, full of flavor, just a joy to eat!

Last but not least, they brought some chocolates to the table which was a nice ending but somehow too many for the small table we were (12-13 people).

All in all, I would not recommend the restaurant Damoro in the Morosani Hotel Schweizerhof for one reason. Too expensive for what you get and the service really isn’t up to the task. The dishes are generally quite okay but it is just not ‘a package’ you’d enjoy.
