Playful way of serving food – not necessarily that persuading taste-wise: Restaurant Candela (6. May 2019)
About two years ago is the last time that I’ve visited the restaurant Candela and it was finally time again. I went for the “mozzarella di buffala (served with tomato sauce, basil, pine nuts, balsamico drops)” (CHF 17.50) which was truly interesting. I’m not sure if interesting in way where you say “OMG, I have to eat this again” but at least interesting. In my opinion the tomato sauce was too intense and too acidic for it to be truly enjoyable.
The “ricotta – lemon – ravioli (Belper Knolle, asparagus, Noilly prat sauce)” (CHF 28.50) was in thus far a bit disappointing as it was on the menu with morels but they had run out of it and offered to replace the morels with ‘Belper Knolle’. Not that this is bad or anything but somehow I would expect that you either have what you offer on the menu or you announce it before I order. So, all in all, the dishes weren’t really all that overwhelming.
What was great though was the service. The waiter was super friendly, super attentive and made sure that the wine and water glass were never empty. The atmosphere is – all in all, also nice. So, they do a great job in terms of friendliness and attentiveness but in terms of quality of dishes, I was not entirely persuaded this time.
