15. January 2011: Restaurant Mongo’S

| January 22, 2011 | 0 Comments

Amazing concept, great food and superslow service summarizes best the experience at Restaurant Mongo’S Düsseldorf. The concept is pretty cool as you get a bowl and a plate where they put a note what sauce you want – then you walk to the buffet and choose all the ingredients you want in your dish – it ranges from salad to all kinds of vegetables, some fruit and a large selection of different meats (veal, beef, pork, chicken, turkey, camel, antilope, etc.) and fishes.

The soup which is part of the menu is okay but not really persuading as it’s pretty tasteless (some salt and pepper solve the problem though).

Honestly, the quality of the dishes (as you can put together what you want yourself) is pretty good – only some meat is pretty sinewy and therefore not so perfectly tasty. But in general, the whole dish is pretty amazing and the selection is great. The most amazing part is though that you can eat as much as you want and from all different kinds of meat and fish for only EUR 14.50 between 12am and 4pm. What you pay in addition though are the drinks (EUR 5.30 for 0,75L Selters – pretty expensive compared to the food).

What is really disappointing though is the service – most waiters are not attentive at all. Only one waiter was friendly and helpful during the whole experience. The rest of the waiters was busy with doing something random and not serving us while the restaurant was almost empty (at 3pm when we’ve entered it) – definitely a way of servicing which is a no go. Especially, after you as a waiter have found out that we’re hungry as hell it’s somewhat astonishing that they still don’t act accordingly and try to speed up the service at least a bit so it achieves an acceptable level.

The atmosphere of the place is okay too – spacious, enough light and modern interior design. Altogether, the Restaurant Mongo’S has an amazing concept, provides a nice selection of fresh ingredients (varying a bit in quality though when it comes to meat) which you can enjoy in a nice atmosphere but definitely lacks in service quality – a real pity as it would make the whole experience truly amazing especially as the price is hilariously low for what you get.
