Lovely concept but overpriced for what you get: Restaurant Coco Grill & Bar (5. July 2019)

So far I had only been to the Coco Grill & Bar for lunch but never for dinner. The concept in the evening is even simpler than for lunch – there is one menu served and you do not really get a choice what you want to eat besides the main course. I went for the “Tomahawk menu” (CHF 130.00) which started with “hummus, ham, roasted bread and olives” which was all nice to get your palate started.

The first course was “tomato ceviche with strawberries” which sounded super boring but was actually refreshing and lovely in terms of flavor combination.

The next course was “fried veal shortbread, cauliflower, pineapple salsa and lemon yogurt” which was nice as you do not get shortbread served too often. However, in terms of flavor, it was relatively bland. As the Coco is part of the same restaurant group as the Fischer’s Fritz, you also get a “vegetable basked with anchovy mayonnaise” which is an absolutely lovely idea – but the basket is huge for two people, considering there are four other courses around.

The “Tomahawk steak” on the other hand was relatively small but at least the meat was tasty and perfectly medium-rare, just how it should be. However, there was more bone to the meat than meat to the bone.

As a last course, they served “kiwi sorbet with berries” which was a bit heavy on the kiwi side but in combination with the berries, it turned out to be quite lovely.

What I liked a lot about the Coco is the little garden area in the middle of Zurich which would allow you to come down and relax in a comfortable atmosphere. The service is also friendly and attentive making sure you have everything you want within a very reasonable time. All in all, the Coco is a nice place which offers good food but for the amount of food, the price for the menu is a bit too much for my personal gusto. Whenever you want to go, even during Züri Fäst, make sure to book your table in advance.
